When a 1Password alternative makes sense
1Password is widely praised for polished UX, travel mode, and mature multi-platform clients. Many people who love that experience still want a second option: a documented free tier, Play-billed Premium that carries to desktop and browser, and a threat model that keeps ciphertext under their own Google account. AzAd Vault from AzAd Solutions targets Android, Windows, and Chrome users who prefer that trade — not a feature-for-feature clone.
Encryption is zero-knowledge: Argon2id key derivation and AES-256-GCM on device. Sync is optional Google Drive ciphertext, not a proprietary cloud vault you cannot inspect. Free tools on the site (password and passphrase generators) stay client-side; the vault itself never sees plaintext secrets.
Free capacity and Premium seats
Free covers 500 items, 20 labels, and 10 TOTP entries with Android autofill, attachments on every platform, backup history, and scheduled backups. That is enough for many students and solo users. Premium removes item/label/TOTP caps, adds Chrome passkeys (create and sign-in), Chrome Archive, and family seats for up to six members. Purchase once on Google Play; Windows v1.0.43 and Chrome v1.1.0 inherit entitlement after the same Google sign-in.
Family seats are Premium entitlements — not a shared family vault. Each person keeps their own encrypted vault. That is a deliberate privacy choice; if you need shared login folders for a household or small team, AzAd Vault is not the right model today.
Honest gaps vs 1Password
No multi-vault, no priority sync, no Android WebAuthn, no iOS/macOS clients as of September 2026. There is no web app vault. Business SSO, Watchtower-style breach dashboards at 1Password’s depth, and travel-mode packaging are outside our current scope. Choose 1Password when those workflows are table stakes; choose AzAd Vault when Android + Windows + Chrome, clear free limits, and Drive-backed ciphertext are the priority.
Versions to expect: Android 1.0.36, Windows 1.0.43, Chrome extension 1.1.0. Competitor apps move quickly — open their pricing and platform pages the day you decide.
How to switch
Export from 1Password (CSV or compatible export), then use AzAd Vault’s import flows on Android or Windows. Confirm a handful of critical accounts unlock correctly, regenerate anything weak, and store authenticator codes in-vault where you previously used a separate app.
