FAQ — AzAd Vault Password Manager Help

No. AzAd Vault is zero-knowledge. Your master password and vault contents are encrypted on your device with Argon2id and AES-256-GCM before any local storage, backup, or Google Drive sync.

AzAd Solutions does not operate a server that receives plaintext secrets. We cannot decrypt your vault, even if compelled — because we never have the keys.

Your master password cannot be recovered — by design. This is the trade-off of true zero-knowledge security: only you hold the decryption key.

If you have an encrypted .azvault backup and remember the password used to create it, restore from Settings → Backup.
If you use Google Drive sync, the cloud copy is also encrypted — you still need the original master password.
Otherwise, you must create a new vault. Old encrypted data cannot be opened without the password.

Android — Live on the Google Play Store. Also linked from any Google Play badge on the site or Download.

Windows — Desktop app from azadvault.com/download. PIN and Windows Hello, dual themes, file attachments, import hub, daily tips, and live Google Drive sync.

Chrome — AzAd Vault — Password Manager extension on the Chrome Web Store. Web autofill, toolbar quick search, and the same encrypted vault.

All platforms use the same encrypted .azvault format.

Sign in with the same Google account on both apps and enable Google Drive sync in Settings → Sync & backup.

Only encrypted vault data is stored in your personal Google Drive app folder (hidden from normal Drive browsing).
Changes sync with debounced push (~3s) and periodic pull (~30s). Conflicts are merged automatically.
AzAd Solutions never receives your Google password or decrypted vault contents.

No. AzAd Vault works fully offline on Android and Windows. Drive sync and scheduled backups are optional.

You can also export encrypted .azvault files manually and store them anywhere you control — USB drive, NAS, or another cloud provider.

Premium removes free-tier caps and adds power features:

Unlimited vault items, labels, and TOTP codes
Android autofill service for apps and browsers
Passkey storage (Android)
Multi-vault support, backup history, and scheduled auto-backup
Priority sync and family sharing (up to 6 members)

Premium is purchased on Google Play (Android). Sign in with the same Google account on Windows to unlock unlimited limits on desktop — no separate desktop purchase.

The Windows app is free to download and use with the same free-tier limits as Android: 500 items, 20 labels, and 10 TOTP codes.

When you hit a limit (adding an item, label, or TOTP code), the app shows an upgrade prompt. Premium is not sold on Windows — purchase on Google Play (Android), then sign in with the same Google account in the Windows app. Your entitlement syncs automatically.

Open Premium in the Windows app to check status or tap Get Premium on Google Play.
Connect Google in Settings → Sync & backup if you have not already.
Tap Refresh on the Premium screen after purchasing on Android.

The family owner purchases a Family Annual or Family Lifetime plan on Google Play, then invites members by email from the Family screen in the Android app.

Yes — on both Android and Windows:

Chrome CSV — export from Chrome or Edge password manager
Bitwarden JSON — encrypted or plain export

On Windows, the Import hub can discover browser export files and read Chromium login data directly. Use Tools → Import passwords in the app.

Vault data is stored at %USERPROFILE%\Documents\AzAd Vault\.

Windows v1.0.42 tightens up startup, tray behavior, and window sizing:

Blank-window recovery stays in place — after sleep, tray restore, or a display change the vault paints again
Standard window size — startup now opens at 1024x720 so sign-in, PIN, and the unlocked vault fit cleanly
Safer tray click behavior — clicking the tray icon restores or focuses the app instead of disrupting an already open window
Native Windows controls — Minimize, Maximize, and Close behave like standard Windows buttons

Settings → Appearance lets you choose:

Mode — Light, Dark, or System (follows Windows)
Style — AzAd Premium (purple accents, gradient canvas) or Windows 11 Fluent (Mica-like surfaces, blue accent)

Live preview swatches show each combination before you apply. Daily tips can be disabled in the same screen.

Supported templates (cards, ID, insurance, etc.) have Images and Files tabs in the detail pane.

Attachments are encrypted locally before storage — same protection as every other vault field
Images are compressed (JPEG) to save space; max ~3 MB per file, 25 MB total quota
Attachments stay on your PC in the vault database — they are not uploaded separately to Google Drive unless included in the encrypted sync blob

Your encrypted vault database is at:

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\AzAd Vault\azad_vault.db

Session keys and Windows Hello credentials are protected by Windows DPAPI (OS-protected storage). Uninstalling the app does not automatically delete this folder — remove it manually if you want all local data erased.

When you click Download for Windows, a popup asks for your first name, last name, and email.

After you unlock the vault, Windows may show one tip per day highlighting features you might have missed — keyboard shortcuts, attachments, import tools, and more.

Tips appear at most once per calendar day. Disable them in Settings → Appearance → Daily tips.
